This site is dedicated to the  keeping alive the  memory and life and works of

 Jan (Godfrey Jervis) Gordon  1882-1944

Cora Josephine Gordon     1879-1950

This site is the result of over 30 years of devoted research by K.J.Bryant (holder of the copyright to all the Gordons' books) into the lives and works of these two uniquely talented artists and authors, and to keeping alive their memory and reawakening appreciation of their life and work.

A biography is almost completed, and contact from any Gordon fan is actively sought as is news of the whereabouts of any Artwork.

The Gordons were a prolific pair and highly talented; they worked in various media - oils, waterclour, tempera and etching, using canvas, board and silk.

Cora was an excellent portraitist who would draw in fountain pen on glossy paper for a fast and spontaneous result. There must be many hundreds of these sketches about.

  Jan would sign 'Gordon',

on etchings or drawings usually 'JG'

Cora would sign 'Cora J Gordon' or 'CJG'

This year, 2007, has been a milestone in that, after years of rejection by other publishers,  Bene Factum Publishing has reprinted the Gordons' best book "Two Vagabonds in Languedoc", the story of their summer in Najac in 1923

This is widely available from all booksellers, and I am sure you will find it as entertaining a read now as it was when first published in 1925.

Please take time to visit the beautiful village of NAJAC as it is today at

....and for a glimpse of the house were they stayed in 1923 see below

The house called the 'remise' as drawn by Cora in 1923

and  (below) as it was in 1984, unchanged except that the stable for the little Black Horse has been walled up......its possible, after a recent change of ownership and renovation, that Gordon fans may soon be able to holiday here... full details will be forthcoming as soon as things are finalised.

.... one can still find    "...a green garden seat ..."  in Najac, though it would be too fanciful to suggest this the same one from outside the Hôtel Tressol................
